Tara Storage

Coach: Joe Vigil
Event: 10K/Marathon
Team:
Run Ohio Racing Team
Sponsor: Infinite Running

Career Highlights:
Tara is a hardworking elite athlete that not only trains intensely on the roads and track but also works hard as a Materials Research Engineer in the Composite and Hybrids Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2003 and with a M.S. in Materials Engineering in 2007 from the University of Dayton. As a student-athlete at the University of Dayton, she was coached by George Brose and Harold “Lefty” Martin and received Atlantic-10 Cross Country Rookie of the Year and 5,000m and 10,000m Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Champion titles. She is currently coached by world-renowned Coach Joe Vigil while training locally with a core group of training partners in Dayton, OH. One of her most important training partners, friend, and fellow elite distance runner is her twin sister, Kara. She likes to joke that while “Most race bibs just have your last name on them, ours always have ‘T. Storage’ or ‘K. Storage’. We have to be careful at the pre race check-in tables to get the right ones. When checking in at the 2008 Olympic Trials, they gave me Kara’s race bib and luckily we double checked the bib. I am sure Kara would have loved it if I qualified for the Olympics in her Bib.”

Tara’s great success on the track and in the classroom comes from her tremendous self-discipline and dedication to her core belief that “Higher education and athletics make for a well-rounded individual.” She firmly advocates fitness and a healthy lifestyle to promote physical and mental longevity. Through volunteering and officiating as a registered Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Official for the past 10 years and a USA Track & Field (USATF) Offiical for the past 5 years, she hopes to give back to the sport that has had such a positive influence on her life. Tara enjoys the duties of operating Hy-Tek’s Meet Manager in conjunction with the fully automatic timing to clerking, field judging, and umpiring at OHSAA Tournament, USATF National Junior Olympics, and USATF Masters’ meets. She finds great enjoyment in officiating with the Sub-Bantams 100-meter dash (ages 8 and under) especially watching the little guys occasionally meandering over the lines, but nevertheless finishing in their original lanes. Just as much fun and inspiring is officiating the more mature 80 year-olds still participating in the shot put and high jump! All in all, she hopes to serve as a role model for children aspiring to excel as student-athletes and for adults who want to maintain a good balance between their career, family, and running.

In her free time, Tara enjoys using her chemical engineering skills by cooking up a storm in the kitchen or putting her materials engineering degree to work through tackling ambitious home improvement projects. She also enjoys world traveling, drawing, painting, reading, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
